About Us

We offer specialist recruitment, training, marketing representation as well as product photography solutions for the lodge and safari industry across South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia,  Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. In October 2018, SafariStaff International was launched, broadening the service across an international client base that will include other regions of hospitality sectors associated with safaris. However, we have identified the potential growth of adventure tourism in other regions of the world where there is a need for servicing the general human resources support structures in all hospitality environments. SafariStaff International will be branching out into countries such as Australia and Fiji and in 2019, the brand will be launching its operations in the South Pacific islands.


SafariStaff Africa (now SafariStaff International) has been placing experienced safari staff into positions throughout the African continent. For the past seven years, the name SafariStaff has become well known with lodge owners as well as tour operator proprietors as a specialist recruitment agency, always willing to go the extra mile to find the best suitable staff for their operations. Similarly, SafariStaff has also become recognised with candidates for the very personalised attention and service, helping good people find their ideal positions within the safari hospitality space. We endeavour to make every effort to match candidates perfectly to ensure sustainable business objectives for all parties involved. We believe happy staff ultimately guarantee satisfied safari guests; as a result, it also ensures that staff retention is maintained and therefore has a beneficial impact on the lodge or hotel in the long term. 


As a boutique recruitment agency, we aim to approach the entire recruitment process with personalised attention and detail. We use our experience as past safari operators, lodge managers and field guides to zone in on the particular requirements we know candidates must have to be successful in the role we propose to place them in. Our combined experience of over 60 years in the safari industry has equipped us with the necessary knowledge in various regions and international countries. It places us in a position to provide a process with discipline and expertise that reflects our detailed understanding of this particular service industry.

Dave Southwood

I am the founder of Safaristaff Africa and now CEO of SafariStaff International, and a former safari Field Guide, who grew up on a farm in Botswana and my attraction to the African bush was inevitable. I spent my formative years learning about and experiencing every aspect of it.


Nico van Zyl

As a naturalist, my ambition is to follow a passion for nature and wildlife, coupled with Eco-Tourism and natural history.  I am not an expert in either one, but the fundamental elements have shaped my professional life and career to such an extent that it took me to enrol in a BSC Sustainable Sciences degree at a university in England. 


Dr Tim Allen-Rowlandson

For as long as I can remember, I have always had a deep fascination with African wildlife. I am not sure how this passion started, as I was born and educated in England, but I was determined to make wildlife my vocation. To realise my dreams, I studied zoology at London University and on completion, started my African journey and career as a university lecturer in South Africa while studying the greater kudu for my Masters degree.
